Rated one of the best snorkel and dives in the World, The manta
ballet will mesmerize and astound you with there dance. Start you
night enjoying a unbelievable Kona sunset on your way your to Manta
Heaven. The unique symbiotic ocean relationship creates a truly
amazing night snorkel experience.
Enjoy one of the most popular snorkel adventures on the Kona coast
of Hawaii. Join Ocean Eco Tours for the Manta Ray Night Snorkel
and get up close and personal with these gentle giants of the deep.
Imagine a dark liquid world into which you and your fellow snorkelers
swim out equipped with bright hand held underwater lights. The lights
attract plankton which in turn attracts the Manta Rays. This is
a true symbiotic relationship - the Mantas get to eat the plankton
and the humans get to enjoy the show. These agile swimmers swoop,
circle and dive as they gather up the plankton putting on one of
the best underwater entertainments anywhere.
This snorkel adventure is very safe - the Manta's are known for
their gentle attitudes and fascinating behavior. I (the webmaster
of this website) love to go on this dive with Ocean Eco Tours as
often as I get the chance. The Manta Ray Night Snorkel on the Kona
Coast of Hawaii is something that should not be missed.

Watch and enjoy these gentle giants in their own natural environment.
See humpback whales (seasonal), spinner dolphins, Hawaiian green
sea turtles, indigenous marine life and pristine coral reefs. Learn
about their unique behavior and have fun doing it.
Humpback whale sightings are common in Hawaii from
December through May each year. About 60 percent of the North Pacific
humpback whale population migrates to Hawaiian waters where they
mate, give birth to and nurse their young.
 |
North Pacific Humpback whales migrate nearly 7,000 miles
each year between Alaska in the summer and Hawaii in the winter.
|
Adult
females begin to reproduce when they reach ten years of age and
have one baby (called a calf) per year. The gestation period lasts
between 10-12 months, after that a calf is born which usually measures
about 12 feet long.
Weighing about 3,000 pounds, humpback whale calves are born beneath
the water and need to be pushed to the surface by their mothers
so they can take their first breath of air. Calves stay very close
to their mothers for the first year as they feed on their mother's
milk and learn to swim. A Calf will consume about 50 gallons of
milk per day and grow by about 100 pounds a day.
 |
A humpback whale's tail (called a fluke) averages fifteen
feet across and has distinct white and black markings on the
underside. These unique markings help scientists identify
individual whales, track their movements and record their
numbers.
